The POLIS Exhibition Arrives in Shanghai to Promote International Dialogue on Public Space

During the month of April, the travelling exhibition POLIS, organized by the Centre of Contemporary Culture of Barcelona (CCCB), arrived in Shanghai, China, to showcase a selection of the most outstanding projects from the European Prize for Urban Public Space. The exhibition was hosted at two Chinese universities as part of an academic and cultural cooperation program aimed at fostering dialogue between architecture and urban planning professionals from Europe and China.

The POLIS exhibition aims to highlight initiatives that promote quality and innovation in the transformation of public space in European cities. Among the featured projects are the landscape restoration of the Controlled Landfill of Garraf in Barcelona, the pedestrian and cycling connection between Barcelona and Esplugues de Llobregat, an intervention that prioritizes sustainable mobility and the link between city and nature, and the renovation of the Paseo de la Boca de la Mina in Reus, a project that combines heritage, landscape, and urban functionality.

The presence of POLIS in Shanghai went beyond a simple exhibition. Several parallel activities were organized during its stay, including talks and round tables. These sessions featured international speakers from various European countries and China, offering a platform to explore similarities and differences in approaches to urban design, sustainability, social integration, and collective memory in public space.
