BIR DNA

MERGING CITY AND NATURE SINCE 1981

Committed to the environment and involved in searching for solutions to solve our planet’s climate emergency, at Batlleiroig we have been talking about Landscape and Nature since our foundation in 1981, by Enric Batlle and Joan Roig.

PLANNING, LANDSCAPE, BUILDING

Our goal is to be extremely specialized in all the disciplines we get involved with –city and territory, landscape and public space, architecture and construction– without disregarding the unavoidable transversality required today to develop any intervention.

At Batlleiroig, we approach projects from an architectural point of view and we have the ability to understand and respond to every phase. To do this, our company is divided into three highly specialised work groups: construction, landscaping, and planning, which in turn make up a flexible, dynamic and cohesive ensemble. This strategy makes us the only firm in Spain that focuses its efforts equally across a large volume of works in areas as diverse as landscaping, planning and construction, ensuring that they all feature a high level of quality, effectiveness and profitability.

URBAN PLANNING ON THREE SCALES

At Batlleiroig, the specialisation and profound expertise regarding the complexity of urban planning combine with the multidisciplinary experience of the firm in construction, landscaping and public space projects. This makes us unique because it gives us a global vision of the urban planning process in its three aspects:

Landscape: Our experience in territorial planning, the environment and the landscape allows us to integrate public and private interests in the creation of high-quality environments that meet the increasing demands to design sustainable cities adapted to the climate emergency.

Building: Our knowledge of the various building typologies allows us to study the most efficient and appropriate real estate models for the market and the needs of the users, in order to integrate them into the urban process so that more interesting products can be obtained for the developer, the user, society and the planet.

Planning: The knowledge of the architectural and landscape scales is combined with our experience in the processes related to urban planning and in its form of development and relationship with the Administration, with the aim of achieving the most appropriate management and obtaining better places to live.

When it comes to drafting documents for urban planning, Batlleiroig has a team of people dedicated specifically to urban planning and also has specialists at the office with expertise in other disciplines (the environment, construction, public spaces, urban design). In addition, the company relies on external technical collaborators in fields such as mobility, the environment or hydrology, and normally works closely with various legal teams.

The concept of urban planning as a means of bringing together various disciplines has been particularly useful in recent times in which social, political, economic and environmental circumstances require even greater effort to achieve the harmony that allows – without prejudice to the quality of the resulting spaces – for the success of urban development projects.

All projects are conceived from a landscape perspective, which starts from the understanding of the environment and its context. An eagerness, ours, to revalue the preexistence of the place. Recover the old roads and reconnect the territory beyond the scope of intervention. And cultivate life in all spaces, even in those that have totally lost it.

We are specialists in solutions inspired by nature, with an ecological and sustainable approach. Our goal is to project a quality public space. That it becomes a great bioclimatic space, and healthy for people and for the biosphere. Conceived with a gender and inclusive vision. And that promotes connectivity with soft mobility systems, to improve the living conditions of our environment.

For this we have a large multidisciplinary team of specialists in landscape and public space. Formed by more than 30 professionals, including architects, landscapers, agricultural engineers, and environmental scientists, who actively participate in the conception and development of each of the projects, in a collaborative and creative work environment, based on continuous training, innovation and excellence.

HOLISTIC VISION FOR UNIQUE PROJECTS

Our holistic view of architecture, which combines creativity, technique and a strong commitment to the environment, allows us to carry out projects with maximum rigour, efficiency and quality.

We have extensive experience carrying out projects of different types and scales, which we develop in every phrase, from its conception to the most specific design.

The intrinsic values of the place –its history, location, potential, etc.–, the functional and operational needs of the client, and our mastery of the set of regulations, determine the ideal solution for each building, which makes each of our projects unique.

As part of our strong commitment to quality and efficiency, at Batlleiroig we are committed to new technologies and to technical, environmental, social and cultural innovation in order to grow in a world that is experiencing a constant paradigm shift.

To carry out construction projects, Batlleiroig has a team made up of more than 60 architects dedicated specifically to construction and who work closely and cross-divisionally with company specialists in other disciplines (city and urban planning, landscaping and public space, as well as construction). Depending on the complexity of each project, it also collaborates with external technicians.

Our goal is to design the best places to live, work, learn, etc. that blend together a cutting-edge and functional design and which are also committed to the environment and executed with the highest quality.

CREATIVITY, TECHNIQUE AND MAXIMUM EFFICIENCY

We understand Architecture as a continuous process where various types of creativity are superimposed, combining a cross-cutting approach and specialities with different techniques to obtain maximum efficiency when it comes to the result.

The project for the landscape and environmental restoration of the Vall d’en Joan waste dump, former metropolitan waste landfill of Barcelona, in El Garraf is an example of continuous evolution of the solutions that we apply to our projects over the years. Innovation leaders

Innovation is an essential value and criterion at Batlleiroig, both in terms of the unique and efficient strategy that is implemented in the work processes and in the conception, development and execution of projects.

As part of its strong commitment to quality and efficiency, we have been pioneers in training our teams to use new technological tools and software, adding concepts such as sustainability, the environment, well-being and health as cornerstones of the design process. Our work has also received certifications that validate our leadership in this field.

Since 2013, the Batlleiroig team has been working on project digitisation in BIM (Building Information Modelling). In the last eight years, the company has been specialising and progressing towards the full implementation of this work methodology, with more than 70 projects executed, developed or under development in this regard.

This system ensures that we reach high levels of efficiency by optimising our processes and controlling key aspects of the project: regulatory parameters, surface control, geo-referencing, construction system data and their environmental impact, structural calculations, budgets, document management, coordination, etc. Managing all the information globally allows us to optimise every resource as much as possible and keep ourselves in line with our sustainability goals.

The BIM methodology allows us to add value to each phase of the project, ensuring optimal management throughout the project’s life cycle and maximising the quality of delivery to the customer. Antonio Duran BautistaBIM Manager, Architect / BIM management Director / Project Director

AN EFFICIENT METHODOLOGY TO ACHIEVE MAXIMUM SUSTAINABILITY

The potential of this tool, combined with the creation of a specialised technical office, ensures us control in terms of the management of the project’s information, thus strengthening our broad technical capacity and experience to make each phase as rigorous as possible. Throughout the building’s life cycle, from studies prior to the management of an already constructed building, digital models are the basis of all the activities derived from the project.

We work with a complete vision of the project, which allows us to move progress in a safer, more effective and simplified way, thus assuming a tangible benefit for everyone involved.

At Batlleiroig, the BIM methodology functions as a backbone between the different disciplines involved in the project, ensuring comprehensive cooperation between all the parties involved and efficient geometric and parametric control.

Our workflow philosophy is based on continuity. We trust in the assembling of a stable team that grows by following the needs and phases of the project. We thus avoid any loss of information or delay in the agreed schedule.

To do this, we have highly qualified professionals and invest in constant training to stay at the forefront of the industry whilst incorporating the use of programming, regulations and BIM standards into our processes for the benefit of the customer and to grow internally.

At Batlleiroig we are committed to the implementation of continuous improvement dynamics; we are an organization in constant search of excellence.

For the implementation of these dynamics, we have established an integrated quality management system, designed by us and which encompasses ISO certifications. The work methodology that we follow at Batlleiroig Arquitectura is directed by a series of processes that include: continuous improvement, training, eco-design … guiding the development of each and every one of the planning, landscape and building projects, to guarantee quality standards that exceed the expectations of our customers.

Maintaining a constant commitment to the implementation of computer tools and the most advanced technology, making a significant investment in resources and ongoing training, and developing research and innovation projects, we adapt to the new climate and social paradigm of today’s world.

We prioritize quality in a creative and collaborative work environment, based on continuous training, innovation and excellence. Antoni Monté LlopisArchitect / Landscape / Associate / Quality Director

Our headquarters are home to a building of great architectural legacy: Casa Moratiel, designed in 1956 by architect Josep Maria Sostres, an important Spanish architect. He was a professor at the Superior Technical School of Architecture of Barcelona and a member of Grupo R. He received the National Architecture Award in 1972.

Casa Moratiel, a reference point in terms of Catalan rationalist architecture in the 1950s, has been listed and is the subject of studies and publications on a regular basis. The house is included in the inventory of Historic and Architectural Heritage of Esplugues de Llobregat and has been proposed to be declared an Asset of Cultural Interest (BCIL) and is also part of the Catalan Registry of Modern Architecture 1925-1965 (Docomomo).

In 2020, we drove the restoration of Casa Moratiel, which will improve its energy efficiency and structure, as well as a restoration of the roof to return it to its original state. Once restored, this will allow it to be open to the public and we can then promote cultural activities.

Our Corporate Social Responsibility ranges from monitoring the Climate Action Commitments acquired with the Generalitat de Catalunya to the coordination of pro-bono projects that we carry out for non-profit institutions.

Sustainability is not only a goal for our projects, but it is also for our business structure. We have acquired a commitment with the Generalitat de Catalunya that is specified in adhering to a series of voluntary agreements aimed at achieving Batlleiroig’s carbon neutrality before 2050. To achieve this, we are committed to reducing the climate impact of the mobility we generate, to promote the energy transition of our activity or to progressively adopt the principles of the circular economy, among others.

Batlleiroig has always focused on generating a stable work environment rich in opportunities, even so, we believe that it is time to establish a clear commitment and address new challenges in the workplace: work-life balance and continuity are two pillars of our Responsibility Corporate Social. We are committed to reconciling work and family, and we are committed to the continuous training of our multidisciplinary team.

Services 360 for better places

We have the ability to handle the comprehensive management of all the processes that we develop, taking on their complexity, coordinating every need and avoiding problems that may arise from the excessive fragmentation of services that are usually offered. Thanks to a broad track record and a highly specialised team, at Batlleiroig we offer a panorama of services where we manage the relationship between every party working on a project. We place ourselves at the centre to be able to act as a bridge between the customer and the different agents involved: the Local Authorities, the construction company, the external collaborators and any other parties, depending on each project.

A GLOBAL EXPERIENCE

Our extensive experience with different administrations has enabled us to successfully develop a multitude of complex projects in both urban environments and rural environments as well as in newly developed areas.

Batlleiroig has a professional business structure that covers, in a specialised way, most architectural fields. Our expert knowledge of the discipline is not only reflected in the complete command of all the scales and specialties that come into play in the architectural project, but it is also essential for us to understand and respond to all the phases of the project. Moreover, our extensive knowledge of regulations, reinforced by our experience in urban planning, prevails as one of our main values.

We work with large corporations, promoters and public organizations

The extraordinary balance between the volume of developments in the public and private sphere that our trajectory presents and the feedback that occurs between both worlds, confirms the social nature of our work. Here are some of our customers:
