Exhibition ‘Seny i rauxa. An account of Catalan Architecture’ opens at the DHub, curated by Joan Roig

On 21 May, the Disseny Hub Barcelona (DHub) hosted the opening of the exhibition Seny i rauxa, an account of Catalan Architecture, a show that offers a broad and transversal perspective on the last 150 years of Catalan architecture. Curated by Joan Roig, Carme Ribas and Victòria Garriga, the exhibition is part of the programme of Barcelona World Capital of Architecture 2026 and can be visited until 6 September.

The opening event featured speeches by Xavier Marcé, Councillor for Culture and Creative Industries of Barcelona City Council; Laia Bonet, First Deputy Mayor; Maria Buhigas, Barcelona’s Chief Architect; and the exhibition’s curators.

The exhibition explores the richness and diversity of Catalan architecture through the concept that gives it its name: the balance between seny — moderation, rigour and reflection — and rauxa — intuition, creativity and innovation. Structured thematically and moving away from a strictly chronological reading, the exhibition establishes dialogues between works, authors and different periods, highlighting the continuity and relevance of a way of understanding architecture that is deeply rooted in territory and culture.

The exhibition brings together hundreds of items, including drawings, models, photographs, sketches, furniture and works of art, offering a multifaceted view of the discipline and its capacity to respond to the challenges of each historical moment. The project reaffirms architecture as one of the most significant cultural expressions in Catalonia and as a key tool for imagining and building the future.
