The Impluvium of Esplugues de Llobregat is a project selected for the ARCHITECTURE 2024 awards organized by the CSCAE

The Consejo Superior de los Colegios de Arquitectos de España (CSCAE) announced on April 11th that our project, The Impluvium in Esplugues de Llobregat, has been selected as one of the proposals in the ARQUITECTURA 2024 Awards organized by the CSCAE.

The impluvium in Esplugues de Llobregat is conceived with the aim of becoming a benchmark space in sustainable water management and a biodiversity amplifier in an area located in the midst of one of the main traffic hubs providing access to Barcelona. The project aims to restore the permeability of the terrain, promoting the accumulation, retention, laminating, and infiltration of rainwater. Additionally, traffic flows have been optimized by batlleiroig, freeing the roundabout from hundreds of vehicles each day, and new routes have been created for pedestrians and cyclists.

The selection process, conducted by the Expert Committees of the Official Colleges of Architects and Autonomous Councils within their respective territorial areas, resulted in the choice of 185 projects out of the 497 proposals received in this edition. The jury will choose the finalist works in May, and on June 20th, the names of the winning projects will be announced.

Since its inception in 2021, the ARQUITECTURA Awards have consolidated their position, marking a significant shift from the recognition framework that had been in place since 1981, as decided by the CSCAE. The current format has facilitated greater engagement between architecture and society, raising awareness among the general public of the sector’s contributions to improving habitability, ensuring access to dignified housing, designing public spaces for the common good, and preserving the cultural uniqueness of communities, the richness of their respective histories, and the conservation of the planet.
