Casa Moratiel hosts a roundtable on modern architectural heritage

On 22 June, Casa Moratiel hosted the roundtable discussion ‘Les set vides de la Casa Moratiel, transforming the building into an open forum for reflection and debate on the future of modern architectural heritage.

As part of Barcelona 2026 World Capital of Architecture, the building provided the setting for a conversation on the criteria, opportunities and challenges involved in preserving and reactivating modern architectural heritage. Bringing together professionals from a range of disciplines, the event explored a shared question: what are the main challenges and complexities involved in restoring modern heritage, and how can public institutions help drive this process?

The discussion, led by exhibition curators Joan Batlle and Joan Roig, featured Antoni Vilanova (Vilanova + Moya Arquitectes), Susana Landrove (Director of the DOCOMOMO Ibérico Foundation), Josep Maria Boronat (President of AADIPA), Julio Garnica (Deputy Director for Culture, Exhibitions and Publications at ETSAB) and Yolanda Ortega Sanz (Fundació Mies van der Rohe and Barcelona 2026). A panel of invited guests also contributed to the discussion, enriching the exchange with additional perspectives.
