Badajoz 97 offices in Barcelona
Offices that respond to the industrial past of 22@ and that, thanks to an innovative structural solution, achieve exceptional workspaces.
Almogàvers 160 offices combine the industrial tradition of Poblenou with the high technology of 22@, giving place to high-quality workspaces related to vegetation, which have obtained the double LEED Gold and Well certification. Its façade combines the concrete prefabricated strong appearance with metallic elements that provide luminosity inside.
This project is part, together with Badajoz 97 offices, of the same planning carried out by batlleiroig in 2019: the Urban Improvement Plan and Urbanization Project of the Pere IV – Badajoz block, where the recognition of the historical plots, the pre-existing buildings and the passages of the block gives rise to an arrangement with a new central public space that adapts to a rapidly changing environment.
This urbanization not only recognizes the Passatge del Camp already existing in the block but also reinforces it with a new system of passages that allow the historically densified industrial block to be fluffed up and incorporate quality public spaces, with which Almogàvers 160 dialogues.
A160 offices occupy the chamfer of the block between Almogàvers and Ávila streets, where the building grows in height to be terraced towards the interior of the plot, giving rise to a private interior patio where vegetation is the protagonist. It is a project resolved in a staggered section with significant respect for the pre-existing surroundings.
The principal access to the building locates on the chamfer, where the volume withdraws on the ground floor, freeing the corner. A large double-height porch frames the entry to the building while leading the entrance to the system of interior passages of the block.
When entering, we found a large lobby characterized by its permeability with the street, transporting the exterior porch spatiality to the interior. Reinforcing this transparency character of the ground floor, the access ramp to the car park communicates visually with the lobby: a friendly space with a plant presence that works as a backdrop in welcoming the users of the building.
The image of the building is given by the structure itself, a prefabricated exposed concrete structure following an ordered geometry that seeks to connect with the factory landscape that has characterized the history of this sector of the city.
In this way, the structure is transferred to the façade, leaving an open office space organized by a core of services and circulations located in the center of the floor. In addition, this structural system is conceived in the project phase as an optimal formula to reduce construction time.
The modular compositional system of the facade is altered by some larger openings that seek to break the monotony. These are made up of a double skin of glass on the façade, creating an air chamber as a thermal cushion, improving the climatic conditions inside the offices.
All workspaces are in relation to quality outdoor spaces and vegetation, improving the well-being of its users. In this way, each floor has a terrace resulting from the staggering of the building.
In them, a system of perimeter planters acts as a vegetable filter and is integrated into the environment, complemented by pergolas colonized by the vegetation that provide sun protection.
This biophilic facade that improves the comfort of its occupants and promotes biodiversity in the city culminates in an interior patio on the ground floor featuring vegetation.
A singular point in Almogàvers 160 is the arrangement of offices belowground. Some spaces that, far from becoming dark and isolated, are in close contact with the outdoor green patio and enjoy quality lighting and are in contact with the vegetation.
This is possible thanks to an intermediate space that acts as a transition between the interior and exterior: a triple-height atrium that, through a very slim and simple metal structure, generates a meeting space with natural lighting and ventilation. This space acts as a multipurpose relationship space, being able to be used as a workspace, for conferences, events or other activities.
