Block of the Ratés passage planning in Barcelona
Urban planning of a 22@ block structured around the recovery of a historic passage as a central public space.
The Hexagon Glòries office building is a benchmark in the 22@ district in terms of sustainability and technology. Its unique and exclusive design is endowed with maximum sustainability and comfort as a workspace. The project incorporates a complete program of measures that achieve significant reductions in energy consumption, obtaining LEED Platinum certification.
The building is located on a plot included in the area for the renovation of the industrial areas of Poblenou, the 22@ technology district, specifically in the Passatge Ratés block. The Passatge Ratés joins Tànger and Sancho de Ávila streets, and is one of the old roads perpendicular to Carrer Pere IV, which was maintained despite the orthogonal arrangement of the expansion. The new planning transforms it into a civic road, reinforced by a zone of public space in the central space of the block.
With this logic, the volume of the project responds to the interior public space of the block and is withdrawn in the chamfer to create a porch for the main entrance. The building lines Sancho de Ávila and Àlaba streets, retreating at the chamfer to create a main entrance porch. The remaining facades respond to the public space inside the block.
The façade is proposed based on curtain wall technology, using an independent cell module, which contains an opaque part and a transparent part and is arranged contiguously throughout the façade. The building has an A energy rating and the LEED Platinum environmental quality seal.
In 2021 we were asked to carry out the implementation of the common spaces on the ground floor of the building (the entrance lobby) and on the ninth floor (which has several different spaces, such as an office, a multipurpose room and a terrace). The intervention is based on the premise of providing a distinctive character to each space and, based on an original interior design, creating different multi-purpose, flexible and collaborative spaces. Spaces characterized by their warmth and human scale are conceived, improving the well-being of users.
With the intention of promoting this strategy, the material proposal is based on a neutral base of shades that harmonize with the Barcelona skyline and textures that provide timelessness, versatility and harmony. Materials such as concrete, natural woods, ceramics, textiles and natural elements help create a continuous and balanced environment.
In addition to choosing high-quality, comfortable catalog furniture, custom-made furniture has been designed, creating iconic and representative elements that characterize the rooms, while improving the functionality of the spaces.
Throughout the interior design project, biophilia is promoted, so that at any point of the intervention you have a connection with the outside and with vegetation. In the lobby and on the terrace, iconic planters are designed that refer to the hexagonal image of the building, and this can also be seen in the signage of the common areas.
In accordance with batlleiroig‘s sustainability criteria, planters with sophisticated drainage systems are chosen that allow responsible water management to be carried out. In the same way, sustainable and environmentally friendly materials are chosen.
