República Argentina dwellings in Barcelona
Multi-family residential building between party walls in the Sant Gervasi neighbourhood.
The project consists of a multi-family residential building of a ground floor with five levels and a basement, which has a corner and has a single access core. The dwellings are placed on both sides of a central hall, so that all the dwelling units look outside, either to the street or to the courtyard of the block.
The plot on which this housing building of PB+5 is constructed in Vilafranca del Penedés occupies the west corner of a large block located in an area of future population growth. The size and the trapezoidal shape of the plot require that the building be L-shaped and form a corner, leading to separate streets. The nucleus of vertical communication is located at the confluence of both arms of the L, facing the inner courtyard of the block. The dwellings, generally of small size, are placed on both sides of a central corridor, leaving the smaller ones to the east and the larger sizes to the west.
On the ground floor and sheltered by a porch is the entrance to the building as well as various commercial premises and the entrance to the community parking. The exterior treatment of the building does not differentiate the facades that face the street from the ones that face inside the patio of the block, to understand that the urban quality of both spaces is the same. The terraces of the houses are linked not only to the living room but also include the bedrooms and are independent of each other by means of a prefabricated concrete screen that gives them privacy and shelters them from the wind. The façade combines the monolayer finish and the prefabricated concrete panels with glazed brick walls, all in the same color.
