Stradivarius headquarters in Cerdanyola del Vallès
A dynamic and energy-efficient facade for offices flooded with natural light that promote biodiversity, health, and well-being.
The project consists of a new Services building attached to the Inditex Headquarters and the urbanization of the area. The program is developed in three volumes clearly differentiated but joined by a longitudinal arcaded strip that connects the different entrances and ends in the two connecting walkways with the existing building.
The expansion of the Inditex Headquarters consists of a large complex of 70,000 m2 built that orders and restructures the rest of the buildings of the complex of the most important company in Spain. The new arrangement starts from the idea of extending the existing main connections with a scheme in the manner of a “cloister”, in this case, reinterpreted since some sides of the cloister are bridges that bridge the inner street, connecting all the buildings pedestrianized by interior spaces or covered, sheltered from the usual rain in Galicia. The cloister creates an outdoor meeting space that gives “air” to a complex of great density. On the west side of the cloister, we generated the extension building, a large complex connected to two parking basements from which 3 volumes emerge, like an “iceberg”, each one with a different program.
This cloister scheme together with the three emerging bodies allows us to incorporate “air” and exterior spaces into a complex with a very high density and where the exterior spaces were totally conditioned by the parking lots and their access roads. In this way, we not only expand the existing set, but we do it by generating an order that allows us to go through it in an intuitive and comfortable way.
The new intervention has to be organized to distribute five different programs: a restaurant, an auditorium, a gym, some offices for the IT area, and covered parking. It achieves this by establishing three different buildings and a system of relationship spaces that unites and It connects them with the neighboring warehouse, where most of the users work.
The programmatic organization of the complex is one of the most important challenges that this project has taken on. It has meant the internal reorganization of the existing offices to allow connection to the covered walkway system that connects with the extension and allows the workers of the house to move freely and with great comfort, regardless of the weather conditions.
The geometry of the ground floor responds to a rectangular base for parking that is under the new square and with access through the central part from the parallel road to the Headquarters building. On this level, three volumes emerge. In the first place, and next to the access to the enclosure, is the restaurant that stands out for its skylight. Secondly, there is the auditorium and the gymnasium, of which the volume of the room stands out, which stands out in height. Third, we have offices, they are arranged in a prismatic body as a diaphanous plant with a more compartmentalized area, where the part of the program that requires smaller dimensions is located, together with the communication cores and installation steps.
The restaurant is the main element of the intervention and has a privileged position and a unique image with respect to the whole. Organize the dynamics with a free-flow scheme, where there are no hierarchical spaces and each user is free to occupy according to their interest. Its geometry folds to create a welcoming and open-air atrium.
The auditorium and the gymnasium share volumes, since both are very open to the public and dynamic programs. Warm materials such as wood predominate, and the large reception space, open to natural light, contrasts with the intimacy of space as representative as the auditorium and the fitness rooms, more related to the side patios, full of vegetation.
Finally, the IT services technology offices stand out for their brightness and spaciousness and the contrast with the related spaces, generating greater intimacy and clad in noble woods and materials with great acoustic absorption.
A large half-underground base, occupied by the parking lot, joins the complex and allows, with a simple gesture, to acquire the quota that connects the ground floor of the new complex with the first floor of the existing building.
