Last Tuesday at noon was presented in the hall of columns of the Manresa Town Hall the new Espai Quico Mestres. Enric Batlle, founding partner of batlleiroig, participated in the event to explain the project the studio is working on.
The surroundings of the Santa Caterina tower will become a viewpoint of the territory that will serve to contemplate and understand the city, and that at the same time will be a memorial to honor the Manresa architect and urban planner Quico Mestres. Died in 2013, he was the author of the first General Urban Development Plan of the democratic era and later defined the city model that is still in force today.
The homage space surrounds the tower of Santa Caterina with a structure that draws a Q and will have a paved circular route. As Enric Batlle explained, “it will not only be a viewpoint”, but it is a space that is defined with four concepts: a path, a viewpoint, an observatory of the city and a memorial. “It is a project that has strength without being aggressive,” he stressed. Concepts related to the city will be engraved on the ground, and there will be railings to show the landmarks that can be seen from the surroundings of the tower.
