Our project for the Roques Blanques Municipal Cemetery has been awarded first prize of Best Environmental Initiative
Roques Blanques cemetery is characterized as the largest public cemetery, in expanse and capacity, and for being exemplary in its mixed management system and its environmental integration in the Collserola Natural Park.
The project for its implantation, designed by Batlle i Roig Arquitectes, stands out for its meticulous adaptation to the topography of the site and its environmental integration into the wooded surroundings in which it is set.
Integration into the landscape uses the traditional language of farming, such as embankments, retaining walls and terraces, to organize the different spaces of reflection, and combines the endemic vegetation of the area with typical Mediterranean garden species.
The language of plants is one of the pillars of the environmental nature of the cemetery. Respect for natural space and its enhancement form the leading thread in its amenities: initiatives such as the Forest of Calm, the Family Tree, the Earthen Columbarium, the Garden and the Fountain of Rest are clear examples of its commitment, using environmentally friendly ways of integrating its activity.
