This is a small intervention in Vallbona Park, located in Igualada, where a new footbridge for pedestrians and bicycles has been implemented. It measures 3 meters wide by 50 meters long and consists of a metallic structure covered by a wooden skin. In order to properly connect it with its immediate environment, the gateway has two squares located in both ends, complementing the overall planning. Despite its small size, this treatment seeks to have an impact on multiple scales sharing a common goal: to invigorate Vallbona Park, a forgotten and degraded place within the city.
The new walkway transforms an unresolved corner of the city into a new gateway to Vallbona Park. Its elevated position benefits from an excellent condition as a lookout over the city and the region.
It connects Vallbona Park and Station Park. It also provides the Siete Caminos neighbourhood residents with a continuous path throughout green areas from their homes to the urban core.
During these last years, the City Council of Igualada is promoting diverse actions aiming to consolidate a footpaths system and cycling ways named the Green Ring. The new route will improve the connectivity within this routes system, increasing even more the flow of people in the Vallbona Park.
