La Vanguardia interviews us in its article about the effects of Covid-19 on the architecture sector

In the Economics section of La Vanguardia, in the section on Economic Emergency, Assumpció Puig —dean of the Col·legi d’Arquitectes de Catalunya— Jordi Badía —partner of Baas Arquitectes— and Enric Batlle —founding partner of Batlleiroig— are interviewed about the current situation of architecture professionals.

Enric Batlle highlights the value of diversification as one of the keys that has led Batlleiroig to become “one of the largest (architecture studios) in Spain, with 110 architects and an annual turnover of 12 million euros”, exceptional profile in Spanish architecture “according to CSCAE data, the architecture studios have an average of 6.7 employees, and in 57.2% of the cases they have a single architect”.

Given the current situation of uncertainty in which we find ourselves, Enric Batlle explains that both the implementation of the BIM methodology and training in issues related to green architecture and “passive buildings” are some of the differential features that have allowed Batlleiroig overcome the previous crisis and face the shock caused by the Covid-19.

Green architecture is another of the revolutions the sector is experiencing, to make “passive buildings”, in which energy consumption is zero. “It is a complete change in the way we build”, recognizes Batlle, and forces us to enter a more complex process to obtain the corresponding certifications. “With sustainability certifications it will happen as with BIM: in a few years everyone will ask for it,” he says.
