Batlleiroig aims for three awards of the World Architecture Festival 2017
The World Architectural Festival is a contest that acknowledges the best pieces of architecture done every year around the world. The current edition, which is going to take place from 15th to 17th November in Berlin (Germany), the WAF2017 has recognized that Batlle i Roig Arquitectura has completed two architectural works well-deserving of a price in two categories: the Pull&Bear headquarter in Narón (La Coruña), nominated in the section of offices, and the Insect Hotel, in El Masnou (Barcelona), in the categories of display and small projects.
About the central headquarter of Pull&Bear, Batlle i Roig Arquitectura presents a rectangular building that counts with 180 meters in length by 85 meters in width and two levels in height, and its open ground it’s organised in three longitudinal strips. The central one hosts four accesses, services and four courtyards. The other two strips include different working areas destined to design and product development functions, visiting rooms, showrooms, office, e-commerce, among others. The facade of Pull&Bear’s headquarter is completely glazed and, from the outside, is shaped by a skin of extruded aluminium panels that curves slightly towards the corners. Moreover, this building has been designed thinking about the environment and sustainable development, and it has been distinguished with LEED GOLD qualification, awarded by USGBC (United States Green Building Council).

On the other hand, the Insect Hotel, a hotel to insects, is located in the Vallmora Park, in El Masnou, in Barcelona. It’s a rectangular parallelepiped made of different layers of materials as stone, holey clay, pine, cane and bamboo, thinking about the big amount of insects that live in there. Lots of insects coexist in here, as spiders, ants, beetles, lonely bees, crickets and fireflies, among others. The Insect Hotel is an original project that allows observing nature closely; it helps to preserve endangered species of insects and improves the biodiversity of the park.

Among the hundreds of pieces nominated this year to the WAF’s, just five are made by Spanish offices: the headquarter of Pull&Bear and the Insect Hotel by Batlle i Roig Arquitectura, “Tennis Terraces” and the house “Where Eagles Dare” by GRAS Arquitectos, and “In Natura Veritas” by AGi Architects.
